Papua New Guinea (PNG) consist of 1,400 islands located between the South Seas and Southeast Asia.
Its diverse geography offers everything from thick rain forests along the coast, to steppes in higher areas and glaciers in steep mountains. Because of its position between two continents, PNG’s culture is strongly influenced by both Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.

The climate in PNG is warm, humid and very much influenced by the North West monsoon, which lasts from December to May. During this time, the air humidity is high and intense rainfalls can be expected.
In general, the temperature is relatively pleasant with an average of 28 to 30 degrees year-round.
PNG is not a well-known surf destination yet, but its multitude of reefs gives it potential. To catch the best waves, surfers should visit anytime from November to April. Surfing conditions are best in the morning when the wind blows offshore. Surfers who don’t mind a little sun can also find quality waves during the day thanks to the county’s many small islands. PNG is accessible by plane from a few major Asian and Australian airports. Flights arrive at Jackson's International Airport (POM) which is served by numerous airlines such as Qantas, Malaysian Airline, Air Niugini and Airlines PNG.
Domestic flights are necessary for travelling around the country as its infrastructure is not well-developed.
For shorter distances, busses or Public Motor Vehicles can be used.
