Aloha! E komo mai – a warm welcome! The Hawaiian Islands are a small tropical paradise in the Pacific Ocean. Impressive wonders of nature, historic sites and a cultural heritage formed by multiethnic influences have all combined to make Hawaii a very unique place.

Picturesque waterfalls - some up to 100 m high - and a much diversified plant and animal life are typical for Hawaii. The climate is pleasantly warm and temperatures rarely drop under 22 °C so the archipelago is ideal for visiting all year round.

As far as surfing, Hawaii has every type of wave to offer and its no wonder the sport was invented by the Polynesians, the natives of Hawaii…Thanks to its geographical position, conditions are very good throughout the year.

The climate on Hawaii is very pleasant with temperatures between 24 °C and 29 °C. It’s subtropical and strongly influenced by trade winds. Because the westerly winds contain a lot of humidity, the east coast is substantially drier than the rainy western coast. Water temperatures are between 20 °C and 24 °C.

Hurricanes are very rare and only occur between June and November, when the water temperature reaches its maximum.

He` e nalu in the Hawaiian language means surfing and Hawaii is probably the place with the largest concentration of world class spots known in the world.

Particularly in wintertime, the reefs on the north shores of the respective islands start to fire. This is also the time when locals and pros from all over the world show their skills in front of hundreds of camera lenses.

But Hawaii offers good conditions all year round, with enjoyable water temperatures from 22 °C to 26 °C. Because all the quality spots are really popular, there is some heavy localism and traveling surfers should absolutely respect the surfing rules and locals.

Most tourists mainly travel to Hawaii by plane and most flights land at the Honolulu International Airport (HNL), although there are also direct connections from the American mainland to other islands.

If you’re traveling to Hawaii from America or Europe you will normally have to make a stopover in Los Angeles, San Francisco or Vancouver. From Asia, Australia and New Zealand there are direct connections. Between the islands, travelers can travel by domestic airlines or by ferry; normally the preferred method is by flight.

On the islands it is advisable to rent a car and this gives you the chance to explore these dreamlike islands. On Oahu there is a well developed public traffic network, thebus.org.
