North America, which includes Canada in the far north, as well as the United States in the in the southern half of the continent.

Because of its enormous dimensions, North America offers a multitude of different landscapes: Canada’s steppes, the mighty Rocky Mountains, the  vastness of the mid west of the USA or Florida with its enjoyable subtropical climate.

There are so many lovely places! But a visit of the Yellowstone National Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Niagara Falls or the Mississippi Delta is definitely worthwhile. There is so much to see and do.

North America’s climate varies a lot, depending on the area that your in. In its centre, a continental climate with hot summers and dry winters dominates. The humid air from the Pacific, which is carried to the mainland by trade winds, pours out from the Alaskan Ridge as far as the Rocky Mountains. This brings the northwest a large amount of rainfall.

By contrast, the southwest offers the mildest climate due to its closeness to the Pacific Ocean.
The south eastern part of the USA lies in the subtropics, which means that winters are mild and summers warm and humid. During some periods of the year this area is  threatened by hurricanes.
In the northeast, there is a moderate climate with four seasons.

Surfing in North America offers many different experiences. In Canada for example, you may find snow covered mountains in the background, cold and clear water as well as the odd visit of dolphins which turn surfing in this country into a unique experience.

Most of the surfing takes place on the Pacific Coast, because there the climate is pleasant and the water doesn’t get too cold. The area around Vancouver Island is one of the best in the  whole of Canada.

The thousands of kilometres of coastline in the west of the USA offer a tremendous number of surf spots. But also the east coast also has some quality to offer. Never forget that 9 times world champion Kelly Slater was born in Florida….

Travelling to North America by air is  very simple. Most  flights use the well known airports like Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary and of course there are many many more.

There is also a very well developed public transport system. On some railway lines however, it is advisable to ask in advance if surfboards are allowed on as baggage.

It pays off, especially for shorter distances or longer stays to rent or buy a car.
