Bienvenido a Nicaragua – welcome to Nicaragua, a country in Central America embedded between Honduras in the north and Costa Rica in the south.
Nicaragua has the luck to call two coastlines its own, the Pacific in the west and the Atlantic in the east. The country was strong influenced by the Spanish colonization, which can still be found in the surface of many buildings.
The country is among the poorest in the world but still owns several national parks that are well worth a visit. You should also take a trip to the “Lago de Nicaragua”, the tenth biggest sweet water lake in the world.
The coasts attract with good diving areas. With a bit of luck you might also be able to see some sea turtles.
The climate is all year long warm and humid in the flat land. This is especially true for the Atlantic coast region. There is however a rainy season at the Atlantic coast which lasts from May till November.
During this time most rain falls from September till October. Ideal for travelling are the month from November till April.
In the period from July till October you need might consider the possibility that offshoots of hurricanes arrive and bring strong waves on the Atlantic and bad weather.
Nicaragua offers a lot of good spots for travelling surfer and is not yet as overrun as Costa Rica.
With a bit of luck you will find a great wave that you can have for yourself or share just with a small amount of people. Unfortunately some of the breaks are hard to access.

The arrival to Nicaragua occurs usually via the Aeropuerto Internacional Augusto C. Sandino (MGA) in Managua.
The other option are comfortable busses that connect many Central American countries. You will then cross the border either in Costa Rica or Honduras.
Once you arrive in Nicaragua you can continue your journey with the cheap regional bus lines. Who wishes to be independent can also organize a taxi.
For longer distances you can take national flights. Who wants to visit several countries should definitely buy the All American Air Pass that allows cheap travelling to the different destinations.
