The island of Taiwan with its subtropical rainforest and rough coasts is located circa 160 kilometres in front oft he Chinese east coast. The landscapes in Taiwan consist of extremes: in the east mountain dominate the landscape, from which 200 are higher than 3000m, in the west spreads a flat and fertile area. Century old traditions and the Asian culture make the island unique.
Also the Flora and Fauna on the island is extremely diversity. More than 4000 different plant species and almost 460 different butterfly and bird species call the island their home. Interesting is also that one fifth of the island are under nature protection, even though Taiwan is one of the most industrialized countries on earth. You can find good surfing conditions all year long. If the conditions are not ideal you can also spend your time with diving, hiking, climbing, mountain biking or paragliding.
The north of Taiwan is sub-tropical, the south tropical. The average annual temperature is 22 degrees in the north and 24 degrees in the south. Characteristic is the hot and humid summer. There can even fall some snow but only in the winter in the higher rocky regions.
The North West Monsoon from November till February dominates the north, but it is usually not that strong. Further south the hot and rain intense South East Monsoon hits the island during April – September. In the month from June till October the island is regular hit by typhoons that develop above the heated up sea. The ideal time to travel in Taiwan is in spring and fall.
Taiwan’s waves are surf able all year long. There are however no world-class waves on the island but a good north swell in the winter or a typhoon can bring a few high quality river mouth and riff breaks. Taiwan offers something good for everyone no matter if beginner or Professional. The water temperature in the south is comfortable warm; in the north a suit is necessary (especially in the winter).

Best season for advanced surfer: All year
